as you know, i bought an E36 BMW 318i with some overheating issues..so to rule out the headgasket, i needed to do an engine compression test using this kit; as you can see the 4 different adapters to substitute the spark plug and allow us to do the compression test. So i was doing an Engine compression test today.. Cylinder 1 = 160psi Cylinder 2 = 160psi Cylinder 3 = 160psi because the car doesnt blow ANY white smoke it is same to assume and carry out a compression test on cylinder 4 to get the same 160psi result. little did i know while removing the compression tester hose that the adapter was still in the engine block. so as i was installing the spark plug back in the motor, it bolted on fine but didn't go all the way in?? - it didnt occur to me at that stage that the adaptor might still be in there.. so thinking that the spark plug needed a bit of torque to get a bit further, thats when...SNAP** the spark plug came out with half the adaptor out. while the thread part of it stuck in the block of the motor. that's when the swearing and panicking began.but common sense kicking in and i did the first smart thing after the incident. I RANG MICKGYVER! and sure enough, he mentioned "chill, relax, its fixable, its do-able." this is when he brought my attention to reverse drill bits. i did some youtubing and came across this; www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYvaPbX1sT4i will have to do this with a manual tap holding the revers drill bit hoping it brings out the culprit.. will keep you all posted.

so anyway.
i headed to Repco where i bought a kit of reverse/left hand drill bit. and using the tap and die method managed to pull ou the broken bit in one go!
pics to come..
i finished the compression test with the following results;
Cylinder 1: 160 psi
Cylinder 2: 160 psi
Cylinder 3: 160 psi
Cylinder 4: 170 psi
so its looking good. not bad for amotor with 247,000kms
upon putting everything back together. the car cranks, ignites but fies instantly and wont keep running.
i checked the fuel pump - good
i checked leads and spark plugs - it has spark - good
i checked main relay and fuel pump relay - good
i checked fuel pump fuse in fuse box - good
everything is as it should be! - mind you the car was running fine a month ago and it was running fine the morning before i did the test.
i put everything back the same and now this.
given the kms of the car im assuming maybe a sensor gave out? but i really dont know what to do now.

i fixed the problem this afternoon. it was a very basic fix.
I disconnected the battery, applied the brakes a few times to drain any current in the system.
The ECU should be reset by now.
Reconnected the battery.
turned car on and VOILA! car turns on and runs as smooth as before!
FIXED!!
